wily,

Speaking of ECC, Samsung is producing 128Mbit and 144Mbit Rambus parts in equal numbers. Is there something to read into this with regard to the memory's reliablility? Or does this just reflect the hi-end destination of Rambus chips?

The latter I am sure. Soft errors are usually caused by alpha particles emitted from minute amounts of radioactive contamination in the packaging materials. They can flip a DRAM logic state as they plough through the silicon.
