You may recall that God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaak. Cult offerings were always eaten by the sacrificers. Abraham was willing --but God chickened out. Also recall (Kings) that God allowed Jews (including kings) to sacrifice children in the fire (Moloch) and didn't stop them -- so he must have approved. I don't know if the Moloch sacrifices were routinely eaten. It would seem an uncharacteristic waste not to eat the sacrifice.
