Ballmer made his remarks in the morning. IMO this was just a convenient excuse and at most a catalyst for a sell-off and not a root cause. Just about anyone with their head screwed on tightly (and not where the sun doesn't shine) knows that tech stocks are at very high valuations and that investors have already factored in the best possible scenarios for sales and profit growth over the next few years. Any bump in the road at this point can cause some investors to pull money off the table. Even without "real news", money will move out of the average U.S. high tech stock as it flows to capture higher appreciation in stocks and currency valuations overseas.

At this point in time there is no compelling "story" left in the nets or other high tech stocks to cause them to move up more than a suckers rally, IMO.
