O\T Monsanto reportedly drew up plans to make billions from world water crisis

LONDON (AFX) - Monsanto Co drew up plans to make billions of dollars from the world water crisis, the Independent on Sunday reported, citing confidential company documents.

The documents outline a strategy to use "environmental issues" to "deliver strong financial returns," according to the report.

A Monsanto spokesman cited by the Independent on Sunday confirmed that the group made plans to exploit the world water situation but had decided several months ago not to proceed. However, he did not rule out that the comany might return to the plans in future.
