To the thread:

I must apologize!

When I laid out the two sin scenario, my goal was not to judge the sins. My real goal was to show we should not judge the sins, because we judge by worldly standards. And although worldly standards make something on the surface seem worse than others, we just do not know the downstream, worldly effects of the sin. And honestly, the worldly effects of sin is not what matters anyway, but the Godly effects of sin is what matters. God is the only judge:

James 4:12
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor?

And this is God's stand on sin:

Romans 2:23
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

It's really that simple and that's all we need to know! It's not the worldly view of sins that matters. It's God's stand on sin that matters! Don't bother judging it, try to find out what do about the sins you have committed, how to reconcile yourself with God! Here's help:

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father but through Me"

Ephesians 2:8:9
"By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works that no one should boast"

I apologize again if I seemed to be judging sins, it's not my business, nor perogative too! My goal is to show that all need Christ as their Lord and Savior. All people need Christ to atone for their sins, any sin, and to have eternal life!

God Bless,
Steve

...they both missed the mark.

Yes.

I see that you are talking about sin strictly from the standpoint of pleasing God and achieving individual salvation. I'm not. I don't think obsession about our individual salvation should be our only concern in life; or should color everything we deal with or think about. That seems to be a miserable way to live.

Shouldn't we care about right and wrong for it's own sake? We should try to avoid wrong and to do good simply because it's the right thing to do, bearing in mind we are flawed and imperfect and that some things are more important than others.

Our viewpoints are different -you seem to be concerned with what someone needs to do achieve personal salvation and I'm looking at things from the standpoint of how I think we should live in the world.
