SYDNEY, Sep 27, 1999 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- The Australian share
market opened marginally higher this morning, defying the overall
downward trend in the United States market on Friday.

HONG KONG, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks are expected
to move within a range on Monday on lack of clear direction with
investor focus still on technology shares.
"The market is likely to move within a 100-point range as
futures traders roll over their positions ahead of the futures
settlement date on Wednesday," said Antony Mak, sales director at
Vickers Ballas.
The Hang Seng Index <.HSI> ended down 182.37 points or 1.38
percent at 13,032.07 on Friday.
"Sentiment is pretty mixed and blue chips will be quiet with
investors staying on the sidelines waiting for direction," said
Percy Au-Young, sales director at DBS Securities.
The market should take a breather since Wall Street turned
steadier on Friday after a sharp drop earlier last week and Tokyo
stocks were higher, he said.
