I wonder if this after the close of market company press release will add to today's gains. I am no expert on this company' technology but i believe it is going to help in tomorrow's trading. OR maybe it will help the stock when they demonstrate the technology this week. Good Luck.

JDS Uniphase Demonstrates High Power Tunable 10 Gb/s Transmitter Module
NEPEAN, Ontario & SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1999--JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq:JDSU - news) today announced that it has successfully demonstrated a tunable 10 Gb/s transmitter module that combines a high power tunable laser and a lithium niobate modulator with compact driver electronics.

The results will be presented this week at two major telecommunications exhibitions: ECOC in Nice, France and NFOEC in Chicago, USA.

As the number of channels increases in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems, so does the number of transmitter modules. Currently, manufacturers have to supply one unique laser and modulator for each channel. Each tunable laser used in JDS Uniphase's module has an 8-nm tuning range in the 1550-nm window capable of covering up to 20 channels at 50 GHz spacing, and features constant high optical output power greater than 10 mW for all channels using patented technology. The modulators cover the entire range of channels at two different speeds, either 10 GHz for OC192 applications or 2.5 GHz for OC48 applications.

''This demonstration is important to our customers for two reasons. First, it demonstrates a way to reduce the costly inventory and maintenance requirements created by the wavelength-specific transmitters used today. Secondly, it is an indication of how JDS Uniphase can add value by 'putting the pieces together' for our customers, instead of simply selling discrete components,'' said Kevin Kalkhoven, co-chairman and CEO of JDS Uniphase Corporation.

The tunable lasers are designed and manufactured at the JDS Uniphase semiconductor fabrication facility in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The modulators are designed and manufactured at the JDS Uniphase business unit in Bloomfield, Conn. The wavelength control of the tunable laser is provided by a microprocessor control board developed by Altitun AB based in Stockholm, Sweden. The compact 2.5 and 10 Gb/s driver electronics were provided by Veritech Microwave Inc. based in Plainfield, N.J., USA.

JDS Uniphase is a high technology company that designs, develops, manufactures and distributes a comprehensive range of products for the growing fiberoptic communications market. These products are deployed by system manufacturers worldwide to develop advanced optical networks for the telecommunications and cable television industries. JDS Uniphase Corporation is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol ''JDSU'' and the exchangeable shares of JDS Uniphase Canada Ltd. are traded on The Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol ''JDU.''
