Network Associates Japan To Push Parent's Security Products

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Network Associates Japan Inc., the Japanese arm of U.S.-based Network Associates Inc., will expand its marketing of computer network security-related software now that the U.S. plans to relax a ban on exports of advanced encryption technologies by mid-December.

The Japan unit aims to double sales from fiscal 1999 projections to 10 billion yen in the year through Dec. 31, 2000.

Among the products is McAfee Total Virus Defense, of which Network Associates Inc. boasts the largest market share in the world. The firm will begin selling PGP Data Security, which provides the infrastructure necessary for information integrity and data protection. The PGP is currently not exported to Japan because of the U.S. ban.

Other products include Sniffer Total Network Visibility, to detect network failures, and Magic Total Service Desk which allows remote control of networks.

In preparation for an offensive marketing move the Japanese unit has added Softbank Corp. (9984) to its sales network of about 100 retailers, and has set up the Network Associates Solution Center within Softbank.
