Pioneer-Standard Opens Electronics Manufacturing and Device Programming Center in California CLEVELAND, Ohio, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PIOS - news) has opened a new Electronics Manufacturing Resources Services (EMRS) and Device Programming Center (DPC) in Fountain Valley (Orange County), California. The newly renovated 24,000-square foot building replaces an older, smaller EMRS/DPC building in Tustin, California.
''While many electronic components distributors are cutting back operations in Orange County, Pioneer-Standard is enhancing its capabilities,'' said Tom Pitera, president of Pioneer-Standard's Industrial Electronics Division (IED). ''With dedicated inventories for our kitting and turnkey programs, and state- of-the-art programming equipment, Pioneer-Standard aims to deliver best-in- class value-added services.''
Through EMRS, Pioneer-Standard serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers with an array of electronic component kitting, turnkey and sub-assembly programs. EMRS offers complete supply chain management solutions -- from materials procurement and production schedule coordination to just-in-time shipments and ongoing technical support.
''As the manufacturing process moves toward real time, flexibility is increasingly important for customers,'' said Walter Tobin, vice president of value-added services and national accounts for Pioneer-Standard's Industrial Electronics Division (IED). ''EMRS can help customers use 'what-if' scenarios to forecast their component needs and can respond quickly to changes in customer demand. The integrated approach to supply chain management enables customers to achieve faster inventory turns and control their total acquisition costs.''
''We used to do our own kitting, and it was not the best use of our resources,'' said Susie Trout, senior buyer planner for board assemblies for ATL Products, Irvine, California, which manufactures Digital Linear Tape (DLT) library systems for automated data storage. ''Pioneer-Standard has a complete turnkey solution for ordering, kitting and working with contract manufacturers to do our board assemblies.'' To help ATL save time and money, Trout pointed out, Pioneer-Standard is installing a dedicated test center for functional testing and debugging of assembled boards before ATL receives them.
In the programming center, factory-trained technicians offer an extensive range of solutions for programmable devices as well as ''tape 'n' reel'' capabilities for most part types. The technicians check for precision and accuracy at every critical production stage -- a total of 10 quality checks. Other Pioneer-Standard Device Programming Centers are strategically located in Austin, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts.
''Quality is our first priority in device programming,'' Tobin said. ''Our technicians use best-in-class programming equipment certified by our suppliers and constantly calibrated to ensure full compliance. They are also well- versed in programming the latest technology packages on the market today.''
ATL Products, a Quantum Company, is a market innovator in the design, manufacture and service of automated DLT library systems. Serving the world market for storage automation, Irvine, California-based ATL ships a large percentage of the world's DLT libraries. For more information, check ATL's web site at www.atlp.com.
