ISS Extends ePatrol Managed Services -- Launches Scanning Service to Deliver Remote Security Assessment Solutions

ATLANTA, Sep 27, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

New Offering Eases Customers' Resource Burdens, Leverages
ISS Expertise to Manage E-Business Security Risks

Internet Security Systems (ISS) (NASDAQ: ISSX), today launched the
ISS ePatrol(TM) Scanning Service, extending its Managed Security
Services offerings and adding an important outsource solution for the
automatic detection and management of customers' security risks. ISS'
new remote security management service builds on an important
technology foundation gained through the ISS acquisition of
privately-held NJH Security Consulting, of Atlanta, Ga., a consulting
firm focused on providing information security services to
organizations worldwide.

"As an industry leader helping millions of people move their money
electronically, CheckFree is determined to provide the most secure
infrastructure technology can provide through such services as the ISS
ePatrol Scanning Service," said Scott Woodison, director of systems
security for CheckFree. "Having ISS eServices - the recognized leader
in managed security services - regularly assess our Internet systems
through their unique automated scanning platform is another step in
ensuring that our e-commerce systems remain as secure as possible."

ISS' comprehensive set of ePatrol Managed Security Services offerings
and the related acquisition of Netrex Secure Solutions were announced
on August 31, 1999.

Today's announcement adds a new service to ISS' comprehensive ePatrol
service offerings aimed at meeting the security management needs of
virtually every company that has an Internet connection and valuable
digital assets to protect.

"As the pioneer and market leader of network security assessment
software, today's announcement further extends our ability to provide
customers with the ability to automatically measure and fix security
problems," said Glenn McGonnigle, vice president of business
development, ISS e-Services. "As organizations transition from brick
and mortar enterprises to online business models, ISS' expanded ePatrol
offerings deliver a critical set of solutions for protecting the
confidentiality, integrity and availability of e-business information
and systems."

Designed for organizations that need security but may not have the
time, internal resources or expertise to effectively protect networked
systems and data, ISS' ePatrol Scanning Service and additional Managed
Security Services enable customers to put their security in the hands
of trusted experts who conduct 24x7 security monitoring and management
of their networks from a technically advanced Network Operations Center
(NOC). ISS is the only company to offer both an industry-leading
SAFEsuite(R) security management platform and Managed Security
Services. Together, these solutions deliver the software and outsource
options customers require for comprehensive information protection
across systems, databases, networks, services, and critical business
and e-commerce applications.

About ISS ePatrol Secure Scan

ISS' ePatrol Scanning Service remotely and automatically assesses
customers' perimeter systems through the Internet, providing a critical
"hacker's eye view" of security risks. Once a scan is performed, a
thorough security report is generated, detailing security risks in
order of priority and providing the information and steps necessary to
quickly eliminate security holes. Through this flexible Web-based
service, ISS also provides customers with valuable guidance
facilitating fast and cost-effective security improvement, including
telephone-based security consulting. In addition, ISS ePatrol Scanning
Service includes "on-demand scans", enabling the quick testing of
security and awareness of new security risks as the network changes.

About ISS eServices and ePatrol

The ISS ePatrol family of managed security offerings forms a critical
foundation for the recently announced ISS eServices business unit
chartered with capturing the rapidly expanding Managed Security
Services market, expected to increase to $1.3 billion in 2002,
according to analysts. These services combined with ISS' best-of-breed
SAFEsuite software solutions, enable the objective management and
enforcement of customers' enterprise security policies across the IT
infrastructure.

ISS' ePatrol is the industry's most complete suite of Managed Security
Services for around-the-clock protection of digital assets. ISS'
ePatrol and SAFEsuite solutions are backed by a comprehensive
methodology for enforcing security policy and managing security risks
across the IT infrastructure. In addition to remote security
assessments through today's launch of ePatrol Secure Scan, ISS' Managed
Security offerings provide the ability to manage best-of-breed security
technology from Check Point, Trend Micro and Security Dynamics
including firewalls, VPNs, anti-virus, authentication and URL filtering
software, and intrusion detection systems.

Pricing and Availability

Customers will be able to purchase ISS' ePatrol Scanning Service
directly from ISS or from an ISS service partner. Based on a 12-month
subscription, the service pricing has a starting point of US$10,000 and
varies according to the size of the protected network. The ISS ePatrol
Secure Scan service is expected to be widely available in October.
