Yes, something like that. However one chooses to explain it (and I would not reject your explanation out of hand, since Republicans are on average better educated than Democrats, and more affluent), people on the Web tend to be more conservative/libertarian, not just on SI. It is a pervasive phenomenon, for example, on MSNBC....

That's absolutely correct. Those on the Internet, and particularly those who take time to participate in Internet polls, are not representative of the general public. A pollster friend friend tells me most Internet public opinion polls are practically worthless.
