I can also bet that this phone will become the standard equipment on EVERY boat in the world. Who would risk not spending $500 on a phone which works everywhere and can save your life better than the ship to shore radio you have to rely on with VERY poor voice quality?

China Unicom Reveals its Network Expansion

China United Telecommunications (China Unicom) plans to
build a 2 mil-line CDMA mobile network by end-1999, and to
develop CDMA users in 160 cities across China in 2000,
boosting its network capacity to 10 mil lines.

The network is due to have a capacity of 50 mil lines and over
35 mil subscribers by 2003.

The company is planning to raise USDlr1 bil through a listing
in Hong Kong and New York, NY, in 2000, according to well
informed sources. The company invests over Yuan10 mil/y on
average in telecoms construction.
