SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBA),
the leader in business-to-business eCommerce solutions for operating
resources, today announced that Greg Simon, a key strategic technology advisor
to Vice President Al Gore, will present at the twelfth Ariba User Group and
Advisory Council, "Building Partnerships for Business-to-Business eCommerce,"
on September 28 in Burlingame, Calif. A former Chief Domestic Policy Advisor
to the White House, Mr. Simon will discuss the political environment for
business-to-business electronic commerce and how Administration policies will
shape electronic commerce in the 21st century.

Greg Simon was Vice President Al Gore's top technology advisor in the
White House from 1993 until March 1997. He also served as Chief Domestic
Policy Advisor in the Office of the Vice President. Prior to that he served
with Senator Gore as Issues Director during the 1992 presidential campaign. He
now advises Vice President Gore on strategic technology issues.

"As busines-to-business eCommerce continues to drive the economy and
create never-before imagined business opportunities, Ariba recognizes that
public policy will play a pivotal role in shaping the evolving Internet
economy," said Keith Krach, president and CEO at Ariba. "Ariba is pleased to

Government is responding and how it will impact their businesses."

Mr. Simon joins a distinguished list of presenters that include Wall
Street's top-ranked Internet analyst, Mary Meeker, managing director at Morgan

Cambridge, Mass.-based industry analyst firm Forrester Research. The worldwide
market for Internet commerce procurement applications alone will reach
US$5.3 billion by 2003 and will generate savings of up to US$103 billion on
transactions totaling US$1.375 trillion by 2003, according to Framingham-based
industry research firm IDC. The Ariba ecosystem currently includes thousands
of suppliers and many leading Global 2000 customers representing more than
$100 billion in total annual spending power for operating resources.

The Ariba User Group and Advisory Council will be the largest forum
focused exclusively on business-to-business eCommerce. The event provides an
opportunity for Ariba customers, suppliers, and partners to share experiences
and expertise in leveraging the Internet to lower operating costs, streamline
business processes, facilitate integration between trading partners, and

DJ Ariba CEO: Unique In Joining Buyers, Sellers On Net

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Ariba Inc.'s (ARBA) business is unique in bringing buyers and
sellers together over the Internet, according to Chairman and Chief Executive Keith
Krach.

In a CNBC interview Tuesday, Krach said the difference is the company's focus on
operating resources like industrial supplies, office supplies, and travel and
entertainment, rather than what he called "direct materials." He did not elaborate.

Until now, companies generally didn't have these types of operating resources and
services automated, Krach said.

Earlier Tuesday, Ariba expanded its electronic-commerce system by including more
buyers and suppliers on its business-to-business network and broadening its product
offerings. Those selling services include U.S. Bancorp (USB), Compaq Computer Corp.
(CPQ) and ImageX.com Inc. (IMGX).
