TELEXIS VIDEO-ENABLES ACCESS CONTROL

Telexis Video Components Add Streaming Video to Ultrak's SAFEnet(R)

OTTAWA, ON, September 27 /PRNewswire/ - Today at the ASIS security conference in Las Vegas,
Nevada, Ultrak, Inc. will launch a breakthrough in access control systems thanks to Video Components from
Telexis Corporation. Ultrak's industry-leading security and access control system, SAFEnet, now offers
customers the ability to monitor live video and alarms from remote premises, while using the same
SAFEnet graphical user interface (GUI) to which operators are accustomed.

Access control operators now not only have fail-safe personal identification associated with every entry
to remote premises, but they can also access live video right at their desktops, either on demand or
automatically on alarm, to keep close watch in case of a security threat. The ability to view events
causing an alarm improves alarm assessment and reduces resources wasted on false alarms.

The ``video-enabling' of SAFEnet has been made possible by Telexis. In addition to manufacturing a line of
end-to-end networked video monitoring solutions, Telexis is setting the standard in networked video
components by offering development tools that allow third parties to video-enable their own applications.
Telexis' Video Components are reusable software components that developers can select and customize to
incorporate complementary video services into their applications. Because these components are based on
open interfaces, developers can integrate them directly into their software environment, without having
to rewrite the code.

It is Telexis' extensive technology experience in video delivery over networks, video compression, video
management and display, client/server architecture and IP multicasting that allows vendors to add video
to their own Windows-based applications. This means a faster time to market and no need to hire or
contract developers with specialized skills in networked video technology. Says John Carter, vice
president of ESS (Enterprise Security Solutions) for Ultrak, ``I am excited that this new technology
integrated into SAFEnet can now be made available at an affordable price, allowing end users to improve
life safety and employee accountability from their desktop PCs.'
