What is claimed:
1. An isolated nucleic acid encoding a glycine transporter comprising a sequence encoding the
protein sequence of (i) SEQ ID 19 or (ii) a sequence corresponding to the protein sequence of SEQ ID
19 except that it has one or more of the following amino acid substitutions (1) Ser102 to Gly, (2) Ser124
to Phe, (3) Ile279 to Asn, (4) Arg393 to Gly, (5) Lys457 to Asn, (6) Asp463 to Asn, (7) Cys610 to Tyr, (8)
Ile611 to Val, (9) Phe733 to Ser or (10) Ile735 to Val.
