Dipy, remember Harshad Mehta? Despite the corrupt govts, the bureaucracy and the justice system in India, one positive thing that came out of that scam is that SEBI came out strong really did a good job in restoring the confidence and instituting sweeping changes. Not bad for a rummy country, yeah? In Alan Greenspan/Clinton/Rubin (Summers - same thing) regime the banks would have been bailed out and Harshad would have gotten himself hefty bonuses. -g-

Well, I got back to you sooner than even I had hoped. Looks like the BJP's problems have started even before the elections have been completed!

I consider these more George Iype's opinions than facts. As I said in another post, my expectation is that BJP gets around 200 and the NDA around 320, and this will keep the NDA in power for at least two years. That is stable enough for me. I don't want the BJP to become so big that it can ignore its allies, and I don't want the NDA majority to be so slim that one ally out of 23 can threaten it. I think the Kerala model has shown quite well that under such circumstances the greed for power will keep the allies together for a while.
