These are interesting points, but what bothers me is how Expedia's market valuation will be subtracted from my MSFT shares. Even if it produces no profits, the market values internet properties highly. If expedia is subtracted from MSFT, the value of my existing Microsoft shares could potentially decrease with no compensation. What's to protect us from MSFT spinning off any of their other products without giving existing shareholders stakes in the new company?
