You are correct!

From ecpl.com FAQs, "What is the composition of Earth Care's recycled plastic lumber? Our products are made from 100% recycled post-consumer H.D.P.E. (high-density polyethylene)."

I have to believe that it was some other product that our deck guy was talking about.

Personally, there's no substitute for wood even with the care necessary. But we don't have termites up here and our deck is a reasonable size. However, the docks are a different story because they're in the lake all summer. We still don't have saltwater or heavy waves knocking them all the time though. They stay pretty dry and only need the Thompson's Water Seal about every 3 years.
