New chip's software ? Palm OS for sure , maybe MOT's G4 AliiVec

Palm's OS runs on the 405 and backward compatibility is hinted in the news , but not specifically mentioned as Palm .

This is a kick though , and may explain why I never rec'd the IBM boat or 2nd consequtive Golden Circle I won ;>)

INM just has a hard time paying anybody close ... like MOT who is one of their PowerPC partners with AAPL . MOT developed a 64-bit hardware/software extension to its G4 PowerPC for a total of 128-bits.

IBM wasn't interested and separately developed its 64-bit Power4 PowerPC , but AAPL wants BOTH MOT and IBM to make G4s .

Now look at this "free" 128-bit "emulation" technology in the new chip:
=====
" To support the performance of the PowerPC 440, IBM also introduced a 128 bit CoreConnect bus, upgrading the 64 bit, no cost on-chip bus architecture the company introduced earlier this year.

Designed as a high-speed pipeline for passing information to the processor, CoreConnect also provides a standard method for quickly connecting pieces of chip designs from various suppliers.

This serves as an open, "system-on-a-chip" design process that encourages the development of reusable intellectual property and faster, easier development of new custom chip designs. "
========

Wonder if IBM is going to handle AAPL's overload demand which MOT can't deliver on time ?

IBM is supplying Psion its new chip with a mini-disk for a PDA to marketed in Europe only - with MOT's Symbian OS .

IBM's new 440 may have a "fast" start .
