Well Roebear, I don't pretend to have the answer, but since reading the news release, I have been wondering - why now? There has to be a reason, and I for one think that it has not been announced.

Gold has been weak for a long time, while they have been selling and leasing, in what appears to be increasing numbers. Now all of a sudden, they do not want to see it go down further?

Hard to take, especially since I just finished eating. :-))

Sure, look at recent history, as US bond rates increase(based more or less on the Fed rates [or fear there of])gold rates move up. If "the judges" say US rates must move up, gold must follow,or in this case lead!
