Getting rid of handsets should not hurt earnings momentum (since handsets were only marginally profitable) and should improve overall margins (something that tends to result in a higher forward multiple). Hard to see that being construed as negative. If you buy the QCOM story, it's cuz you buy the CDMA IPR story; not cuz you think they're going to take over the world with their handsets. That's why the stock went up after the announcement that subscriber is on the block.
One can make an argument that all stocks are overvalued, and therefore QCOM is too. But if you're not making that argument, then you must say QCOM is overvalued relative to other stocks (that is, compared to other large cap techs). Why don't you compare run-rate earnings against some of the old stalwarts like Cisco and MSFT and DELL; see what you come up with. I think your argument needs a little fleshing out (one word statements like "Valuation" are not meaningful).

>>1.Uncertainties with GSTRF after disasters with IRID.<<

Don't we all know this -- and have known for some time?

>>2.Slowdown in sales and earnings growth momentum, after possible sale of handset business. (Don't get me wrong , its good long term, but not short term). <<

Don't we all know this [slow down in handset sales]-- and have known for some time? But no slowdown in earnings that I'm aware of

3.Valuation

What's the point here? We can see the price -- what does this have to do with what they'll say at the conference?

Don't understand your entire post.

Exactly where are you seeing earnings slowdown? From what sources do you base that statement? All the news released recently has stated the case for positive potential growth with regards to sales and earnings as well an excellent increase of adoption rate of CDMA (actually ahead of schedule by my model, with large players doing jv's and m&a's stiring the fires of competition this year and not mid 2000). With regards to the sale of the handset division, the company expressly stated that the sale would be accretive to earnings. Are you basing this all on the presumption that Globalstar will go the way of Iridium and therefore hurt the sales and earnings of Q????? Please substantiate your statements.

Sincerely Phatbstrd

I looked through your prior posts -- Your last comment on QCOM was back in July. I've noted it below. You sure missed the boat last time [big time]; what makes you think that QCOM is now going to drop a bombshell?
