Don, i was looking for a blow-off to satisfy the standards set by historic precedent - but i can sure live without one<g>.

since we are officially in a bear market according to Dow theory and today's bounce was accompanied by continued weakness in the NH/NL statistics you cite and renewed weakness in transports, utilities and financials i'm quite comfortable with staying short at this point.

i'd say last weeks action in the market has reduced the chance for a blow-off considerably. i'd reconsider the potential for a blow-off only if the market's internals strengthen considerably and the indices manage to re-break former support (now resistance) levels to the upside.

regards,

hb

It's OK to make strong statements on the MYTH thread Don- In fact it is encouraged. I think I'll make one myself:

"THIS MARKET IS TOAST!" Short the F*ck out of any rally! <g>

BTW- Got gold? <vbg>

Side note- The front page of my newspaper today had an article titled, "Market's recent fall may prevent CRASH"
Holy sh*t Batman- they're using the C-word on the front page. Not a good contrarian sign. <ng>

NEW LOWs have not been around the 200 range for such a long
time, except during the bear market of the early 1970's.

Don,

Interesting point, but the first thing I thought about was what percent of the total population of stocks did 200 lows represent in the early 1970's? Do you know ?

I don't know for sure, but my suspicion is that 200 lows then probably corresponds to at least 400 lows now as a percent of all stocks listed on the exchange.

Any Thoughts ?

Best Trading,
X
