Elmer - RE: "So if CuMine adds a 10-15% performance boost it should clearly trounce the Athlon on this important benchmark."

Was this "important benchmark" important to you when benchmarks came out which showed the K6-III faster than the PIII?

Cuontimemine may well beat the Athlon in Winstone 99 on NT by a good margin.

But there is also another office benchmark out - BAPco. In Win 98, the Athlon enjoys a 11.7% advantage and in Win NT a 13.8% advantage. So that benchmark should be a little harder to overcome the Athlon in.

But of course, we can't forget that these gains for the PIIIB are with the expensive PC800 DRDRAM running on a chipset that doesn't even work properly.

So Athlon systems should actually be very price competitive with Cuontimemime systems running on the CamiNo-Go chipset IF the platform recieves a fix by the end of Oct.

Athlon systems will have a performance advantage over Cuontimemine systems running on the i810 chipset.

Looks like a Catch-22 for Intel.

Elmer, Pentium III 600B on Winstone 99 NT and Athlon 600
Sure, these are equal BUT
1. Athlon is 50 MHz faster, soon to be 100 MHz
2. The Intel benchmarks were run using an unavailable chipset on an unavailable motherboard using memory that is not for sale. Most commentators think the chipset has to be redesigned
3. The Intel benchmarks were run using a TNT2 Ultra graphics card, not the i810e integrated graphics.
