If traditional morality is the guiding principal, it would seem that social conservatives would seek more govt regulation, not less. They would lead the charge on tobacco, environmentalism, gun control, and national healthcare.

Well, most of the "social conservatives" agree that the government has become too intrusive, and value the free- market. However, a lot of them are Evangelicals and Catholics who voted Democratic until sometime in the last 20 years, which is why some are susceptible to the strange brew of social issues and populism cooked up by Buchanan.

Your position is that Buchanan followers, aka "social conservatives" should be lumped in with libertarians for statistical purposes? Your original point had to do with intellect I believe. Buchanan being a total isolationist and fan of racial quotas, etc.? I really think most libertarians would take issue with that.
