Donny, a RagingBull colleague put it very succinctly. His summation is linked below. He wrote this shortly after it was announced that CMGI bought 1stUp, a FREE Internet Service Provider. So while you're mulling over TinMan2000's very nice compilation, please also consider presenting to me the reason WHY CMGI bought 1stUp?

You know when oil drillers buy other oil drillers, all the oil drillers move up in share price. Will this hold true for the ISP sector, both paid and free? Maybe; maybe not. But I think consolidation within the ISP sector will become the test to who will survive. And, in my opinion, NetZero will be the gem to own. I'll also toot my own horn and present a recent CBSMarketWatch description of the NetZero free service vs. paid service battle. The respective links follow:

And speaking of NetZero owners, here's a tidbit you might like:

Also, did you know that CMGI, which just bought free service provider 1stUp also owns Altavista which it bought from Compaq. And that Compaq still owns part of Altavista as well as eight or nine percent of NetZero. Wild theory: What would happen, when the timing is precisely right, were CMGI to buy NetZero? Would your arguments change?
