PB, <IBM to use VIA PC-133 chipset.>

Funny how no one is talking about the poor performance of VIA's chipset in all but a few select applications:

anandtech.com

Gee, equivalent performance to 440BX and PC100 in Business Winstone 99, and worse performance in most AGP benchmarks and games, even when the VIA chipset uses the 133 MHz bus and PC133 SDRAM.

And yet no one notices. How convenient for the anti-Rambus coalition to overlook these results ...

P.S. - There may be other reasons for IBM going with VIA's chipset, including the 440BX shortage during the summer, VIA's low price for their chipset, and the advantages of having more than one chipset provider. But it's obvious to me that performance isn't one of those reasons.

<how will a BX/GX running at 133Mhz compare with Camino?>

Good question. Although when it comes to PC133 support, I think Intel would rather push the "Accelerated Hub Architecture" of the 800 series of chipsets, rather than continue with the 440 series.

And no, I don't know how Intel will support PC133. For performance's sake, I hope it's not through an MTH component.
