COMPLETE AMERICA ONLINE ANALYSIS
By Kevin Prigel of The Street Advisor

When attempting to define the industry that America Online participates in, one must look solely at the America Online business model. AOL is not in an industry; it is defining an industry. This industry's scope reaches far beyond the provision of Internet services, or online content.

COMMENT: We are torn by this company. On one hand we LOVE the company - see above article on the Net. On the other hand we think it is overpriced if the market decides to slide on down to 8,000. But, they ARE profitable and we do love a few companies that won't be making any money for years and years to come (Amazon, DoubleClick). So why do we agonize over our ownership here? Good question. Like we've said before, it's tough to buy AOL; it's tough to own AOL; and apparently, tough to sell the company!
