Well the weak US$ has helped but there was such a huge short position in AU and especially in AU stocks that this was bound to happen. For almost a year it was relatively safe to just let a short position ride. There was a lot of complacency just like in the equity markets. After what happened in oil, which I think is also still to find a new low, it is hard to know how long and how far these things can go. I am just going to take profits as I go and enjoy the ride. I was thinking about how underweight Canadian Equity funds must be in the golds. The index funds will have to rebalance and the managed funds might actually start buying again.
