I am still intrigued by the idea that this is an Intel problem, not a Rambus problem. Sure, they were working together on the design and implementation, but Rambus does not build chipsets, motherboards or any such thing.

Now, Dell brings the problem to Intel's attention and somebody has to take the fall for such a colossal blunder. Who? Intel? Nah, been there and done that with the floating decimal problem. Don't want any challenges to Intel reputation on the technical side of things. So, Rambus is sacrificed as the goat...with the promise that after the dust clears "we'll make it up to you".

Of course, this could all be just an example of terrible communication and results accountability. But I am cynical by nature.
