This could be further groundwork in IBM buying PCs from DELL. Wang and UIS were essentially out of the PC business when they began servicing DELL and DEC was not a real threat.

Unless there is a quid pro quo, it seems that letting IBM do the servicing is akin to letting the fox in the hen house.

Dell makes the sale, IBM comes in picks up the servicing and then diverts future sales. After all a work station is a work station.

I beleive IBM will be sourcing to DELL within a month or so. By virtue of the other agreements, IBM will likely make more money selling a DELL than selling an IBM. Profit on drives and perhaps chip sets, etc.

IBM alliance could help DELL with marketing of its new drive technology.

We'll see.
