SG Cowen's Peck on Intel's Delay of Rambus Product: Comment

Boston, Sept. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Drew Peck, a semiconductor analyst at SG Cowen in Boston, comments on a delay by No. 1 computer-chip maker Intel Corp. on a product that works with Rambus Inc.'s computer memory-chip technology. Rambus shares have fallen 33 percent since Thursday.

``Any delays in the acceptance of the Rambus technology opens the door wider for a potential competitor,' said Peck, who cut his rating on Rambus on Friday to ``neutral' from ``buy.'

``Interestingly, it may be Intel's own fault. It's not exactly clear where the problem lies.'

``If (Rambus technology is) that hard to implement, Intel may be forced to throw its support behind a competing standard.'

``It seems to be very good technology, but the implementation seems to be problematic.'

``Looking out a year, it's not obvious whose technology is going to wind up as the standard for next-generation PCs.'
