Freeserve sees pretax loss of $8.6 mln
Shares slide as first quarter losses widen

LONDON (CBS.MW) -- Shares in Freeserve, the U.K.'s No. 1 Internet Service Provider, fell sharply after the company posted pretax losses before exceptional items of $8.6 million (5.23 million pounds) in the first quarter, compared to losses of 810,000 pounds in the previous quarter.

These are the first official results for Freeserve since it began trading on the London Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq on July 26. The first quarter period refers to the 16 weeks ended August 21, while the previous -- fourth -- quarter refers to twelve weeks ending May 1.
