I was there off and on in the mid and late 70's. It was a pretty bustling place. Lotta work, bars never closed, good restaurants. Went back in 84 to visit and was shocked at the difference. It was like a ghost town. None of my old pals or employers were around any more. It was a starker contrast down the road in Morgan City, because it was a much bigger town. There was machinery around that looked as if guys just walked away in the middle of doing something and never came back. It was eerie. The oil bust is still with them, I think.
