JAKARTA - An UNCTAD report has estimated that flows of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Asia in 1998 decreased by 11 percent as the result of a decline in FDI to Indonesia. According to the "World Investment Report 1999", released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), made available to Antara here Monday, the plunging FDI flows to Asia were the first since the 1980s. FDI flows to Asia in 1998 totalled US$85 billion, down US$15 billion from 1997. However, despite the 11 percent drop, the 1998 figure was still higher than those in 1991-1996, the report said.
