The acquisition of Trisignal was a really good move... I was following this compagny for some time before they were bought by Eicon and there is a lot of potential for embedded modem.

Eicon Technology: Trisignal Communications Brings
Internet Connectivity to Sega's Dreamcast-Embedded Modem

SEPTEMBER 29, 1999
Makes Next-Generation Gaming Console Internet-Ready
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA--EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOOTH #4418 -
Fueling the massive surge of consumers to the Internet, TRISIGNAL
Communications, a Division of Eicon Technology Corporation,
announced today they are providing key technologies for Sega
Enterprises Ltd.'s Internet-ready videogame console, Sega
Dreamcast(TM). Available in the U.S. and Canada since September
9, 1999, Sega Dreamcast pre-sold more than 300,000 units and
brought in over $97 million in retail sales during the first 24
hours, illustrating the overwhelming demand for the first
videogame console with Internet functionality
Using TRISIGNAL's embedded controllerless modem code and a V.90
data pump from Conexant (Nasdaq: CNXT), the Sega Dreamcast is the
first videogame console to enter the market with Internet
capabilities. The built-in modem ensures full Internet
functionality, including chat, email and browsing through the Sega
Dreamcast Network, an online gaming portal accessible only through
Sega Dreamcast. "We are proud to join Sega in setting new standards for true
interactive entertainment," said Gad Elmoznino, Director of
TRISIGNAL Operations. "Our partnership gives console gamers more
ways to play and communicate that were never before possible."
"We are very excited about our super console Dreamcast with
Trisignal's optimized 56K modem design," said Shiro Hagiwara,
consumer development and manufacturing division executive general
manager, Sega Enterprises, Ltd. "As a pioneer in console games
with networking capability, Sega is determined to become the
center of interactive entertainment worldwide."
TRISIGNAL's embedded modem has been designed to minimize required
CPU MIPS and is optimized in terms of modem performance.
TRISIGNAL's efficient architecture also reduces the number of
modem components, which keeps the overall manufacturing costs per
unit very low. Originally introduced in Japan in December 1998 with a 33.6 kbps
controllerless modem from TRISIGNAL, the Sega Dreamcast has
already sold over 1 million units worldwide. About Sega

Eicon's WAN Cards to Support Microsoft Windows NT
Embedded 4.0-New Embedded Operating Systems Calls for Strong WAN Solution

SEPTEMBER 29, 1999
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA--EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, BOOTH #4418,
Eicon Technology, a global leader in remote access solutions,
today announced that its EiconCard family of WAN interface cards
and Developer Toolkits support Microsoft Corp.'s (NASDAQ: MSFT)
new Windows NT Embedded 4.0 operating system. This allows
EiconCards to offer connectivity solutions to the next generation
of embedded solutions that are built on the rock-solid, flexible
and scalable Windows NT Embedded platform.
Embedded devices that can take advantage of Eicon's WAN
connectivity solutions for the Windows NT Embedded platform
include self-service kiosks, Automated Teller Machines, Multimedia
Payphones, Retail/Point-of-Sale Systems, Thin Servers and Internet
Appliances. Companies such as Fujitsu, INETCO Systems, Siemens
Nixdorf and Wyse Technology are using Eicon solutions in their
systems for these markets.
As products using 32-bit processors are becoming standard in the
embedded systems market, customers are demanding more
functionality from these devices. By using the Windows NT
Embedded platform, these devices can offer improved functionality,
while allowing them to be integrated into the existing corporate
IT infrastructure. In addition, the availability of pre-existing
development tools for the Windows NT platform allows companies to
build and deploy their products in a much quicker fashion.
"Eicon's prior integration work in many of the embedded markets
that we are targeting with Windows NT Embedded will enable our
products to work together very closely to bring powerful solutions
to our mutual customers," said Vince Mendillo, lead product
manager, Microsoft Corp. "As the communications needs of
specialized devices grow, we are confident that Eicon's WAN
adapters can accommodate the wide variety of applications that
will develop in the embedded market."
"Support for Windows NT Embedded 4.0 is consistent with our strong
sales and rapid growth in the Embedded markets worldwide," said
Ken Gingrich, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing
Operations, Eicon Technology. "This builds on our already
comprehensive support for the Windows NT environment and our
long-term, close working relationship with Microsoft."
