>>Who then needs a PC? Jini can do it all, and no configuration or setup required, and all you need to coordinate them is a SunRay.<<

Great Proggy, i'll run right down to compusa and get a sunray and a jini thingy and my problems are over.

Proggy, what your own comrade is trying to tell you here, in a sense, letting you down easy is, YOUR DOG AINT GONNA HUNT FOR MANY MANY MOONS.

PS: You don't still pine for your junior high school sweetheart, do you?

That sounds nifty, and a lot of it can be wireless too. When you say "DV tape" do you mean a deck? Because I see the data residing either on the server while all the rendering and editing is going on right up until the "print to video" step at the end, at which time the deck would simply transfer the data to the DV media (under the direction of Jini), or perhaps on some new Jini-aware nonlinear editing device (which perhaps you refer to as the "local DSP"?), whose UI you might see on the SunRay via the server.

Many exciting things are possible. We just need a few things to happen between now and then<g>.
