Elmer - Re: "The article doesn't say how many are being purchased at this time. Only what the capacity is."

Compaq Responds to Intel 550 Xeon Bug

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1999--In response to an article published by InfoWorld Electric Magazine on September 24, 1999, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news), confirmed today that its ProLiant 8000 and ProLiant 8500 servers are unaffected by the Intel ''bug,'' which manifests itself in the Pentium III Xeon 550MHz processor when communicating with an Intel ''Saber'' motherboard.

Compaq designs and manufactures its own 8-way server motherboard, and after weeks of thorough testing, Compaq and Intel have confidently determined that the ''bug'' is confined to the Intel Saber motherboard, and there have been no problems with respect to the Compaq design.

Compaq has been shipping 8-way servers since August 23, 1999 and the Intel ''bug'' will have no impact on server supply or availability. For further information, please visit: compaq.com.
