I'm sure Nancy thinks Ronnie is already a Saint.

Well, I think Hillary has learned finally that she had better apply for her own home mortgage. (I still don't understand why she doesn't leave the creep who is her husband).

The good news is that although press reports indicate that Terry McAuliffe offered to guarantee the Clintons' home loan, Hillary plans to apply for her own mortgage.

According to The New York Times critics of Bill and Hillary's "arrangement with Mr. McAuliffe have questioned whether it complies with the letter and spirit of Federal gift and campaign contribution laws. A tone-deaf White House has defended the deal with technical legal arguments that miss the real point.

By its very nature, such largess compromises the dignity and integrity of the office. No sitting President should accept loans or any other form of personal financing from anyone other than close relatives or institutional lenders. The fact that former President Reagan allowed wealthy friends to buy a house for him while he was still in office was a regrettable precedent, not an example to follow.

Excerpts from an editorial in The New York Times, Tuesday, September 28, 1999, page A30.

The bold italics are mine.

Ish, are you ready to drink a toast to Saint Ronnie?

B4 you do, you might consider the very, very expensive life style that his wife Nancy chased. Remember her expensive inaugural gown? Of course, wealthy friends picked up the tab after the press questioned the cost.

And then there was the White House China. If you listen to Nancy, you would think that she didn't have anything to do with the NEW CHINA that decorated the President's table. Again, wealthy friends paid for her China.(I believe!)

Buy what about all those designer gowns that she wore. I thought, at the very least, that she might have paid for them because the Reagans are not poor. According to news reports, however, I believe Nancy accepted those gowns as gifts until the IRS caught up with the Reagans. And then, they may have paid a tax for Nancy's designer gowns.

So mebbe we should drink two toasts to Saint Ronnie! His biographer thinks he's a clever stage actor!

I don't know what his biographer said about Reagan's wife. Persoanlly, I'd forget that she exists.
