songw--Your post is almost laughable if you weren't actually serious. This professional shorts gang up to beat down good companies has been around the market forever. Why would they? Lousy companies that are vastly overvalued or out right scams abound. Do you think market pros can't identify them and instead have to pick on quality companies? Quality companies defend themselves, they gain revenue and market share, post profits, come out with good products or enter new markets. They are murderous to short. The other illusion about this that somehow the shorts ruin the company. Typically the trading that is going on is publicly traded stock. The company neither loses or gains money from this. Their business is independent from the stock transactions going on. The actual stock manipulation that I have seen and seen repeatedly is not from the short side and certainly not shorts attacking quality companies. It is on the long side, notably on the BB market but the other markets are not immune. They are called pump and dumps. I think you should ask yourself why a group of wealthy immoral professional market people would gang up to short a quality company. As you pointed out the gains are more limited and the risks higher. Why do this when they can pump and dump a stock and make multiples on their money with far less risk. This question is not merely theoretical, that is what is happening in the market, not shorts beating down quality companies. Druss

Do us a favor and stick to posting on the laughable "songwire" and hanging out on daytraders/mirc. And keep posting those hot tips about stocks like KTEL and others under $5 on Tokyo Joe's thread.... Your post (and your posting history) epitomizes the chart n' chat, etrading retail amateurs that make this market a joke.

songw, As much as you would like others to think that those who short are involved in some great big evil conspiracy, you know it's not true. Short sellers simply do what many longs don't or won't...in-depth, hard-core, pure DD. The truth about a company can be ugly and scary when you're long, but short sellers are just the messenger. If traders are willing to buy on press releases and headlines alone without looking any further, then they can neither be surprised nor angry when those who dig deeper profit from their laziness.
