Bill,

I don't expect anyone to excuse caustic comments from me. They serve no value for anyone. I do try to avoid them most of the time. Sometimes I'm just not anywhere close to successful.

It takes all kinds of investors to make a market. If the TA folk want to take the price down because of a chart formation, sooner or later they'll get it to a price that the fundamentalists just can't resist. Thus I welcome Phil and his followers. ;-)

And Phil may well be much smarter than I am. I think I'm barely smart enough to know when to buy MTSN. Hopefully, somewhere about 3-5 years from now, I'll be smart enough to sell most of my position reasonably close to the peak. Probably not, but it's a nice thought.

The TA folk may actually be much smarter by being able to successfully buy at each interim low, then sell at each interim high along the way.

They get to pay taxes unless they're in a sheltered account. I get to watch my position grow over the years.

And it really doesn't bother me if my portfolio is worth less at 2:45 on Wednesday than it was at 2:39. I only care when I decide to sell or buy something. I guess that last statement is also true for the TA guys. We just work on a different time scale.

Have a good evening,
Ian.

Bill H. I read your lengthy message. Actually, you have me pegged wrong. I am a fundamentalist who likes to use charts to confirm the fundamentals. Usually they do but not always. I am in MTSN (and I have a significant position) not because of the chart but because I believe that we are in a fairly strong and hopefully lengthy upswing for the chip equip industry after having been through the ringer due to the Asian crisis. I also own other chip equipment stocks but MTSN is by far my largest position. I had posted my chart interpretations only to add a little something extra to the tread but obviously they have become a source of contention even though they have been right on the money. I will be the first to agree that charts don't always work and a good recent example of that was AMAT's (which I am long)significant decline from the 80 area to nearly 60 and then immediately on to a new high. Hopefully, MTSN will do the same thing. With today's action, maybe MTSN's very temporary break below the 50 day MA was meaningless, only time will tell. Since I have now concluded that the tread is irritated by my T/A postings, and it makes no sense to be an irritant, I will keep my T/A comments to myself. However, I will continue to use this site for the valuable fundamental info it provides. Good luck. Phil
