07:01 ET Overseas Markets : --London-- S&P Dec futures are 2 points below fair value at 1291.9 indicating a 15 - 20 point negative open for the Dow. The Nikkei ended down 43 at 17,282 as profit taking settled in after Tuesday's strong rally and on concerns recovery may falter. August industrial production rose 4.6% m/m, the highest in 42 years but Sep and Oct data are likely to contract. The Hang Seng ended down 10 at 12,834. The Taiwanese TWSE rose 37 to 7615, the first rise since the quake. The Korean Kospi fell 3.5% as investment trust buying dries up. The Thai SET rose 1.6% to 391 on optimism over upcoming bank sales. In Europe all stock indices are modestly lower with the FTSE 100 down 17 at 5989 and the DAX down 28 at 5090. Rate hike fears were exacerbated by Italian Aug PPI which rose a stronger than expected 0.3% m/m & UK M4 lending at GBP 9.7 bln (gross new credit to consumers was the highest since the series began). Bonds are +5/32 at 6.073%.
