Doug:
Isn't it great for system vendors like IBM, Compaq and Dell not to have to sell them damm defective 820 computers with RDRAM thats slower than SDRAM when they have plenty of SDRAM computers with processors below 433 MHz in warehouse. Gelsinger stated today @ ITC keynote address that slowest processor they produce is 433 Mhz. I have a funny feeling that problems with 820 board will get a "good fix" when oversupply condition improves within "two weeks to two months" if I quote standard line I got from several trade members at ITC show.
I find it extremely funny that as soon as IDF met in Aug that SDRAM prices went sky high across the board and RDRAM was judged to be slower than SDRAM by Intel and Dell who made sure it was leaked to the drunk cretins from THE REGISTER at Palm Springs hotel bar to make sure that the word got out.

"We were sitting by the poolside bravely quaffing some Michelobs and Banquet Coors, when a group of Inteleers and customers came out on the veranda for a sly cigarette or two.

One customer was asking why it was that the i820 with Direct Rambus memory is outperformed by a BX mobo using SDRAM (synchronous DRAM).

He had been to an Intel presentation where a graph demonstrated that anomaly and had asked the speaker to explain it to him.

The Intel speaker couldn't, but said: "If it says it on the slide, it must be true."

IMHO I guess thats a byproduct when the majority of the unprofitable computer cartel members all get together at Intel's house party to discuss the future of the PC.
