richard:
I wouldn't know how to begin to test RDRAM if you sat me in front of testor unit. Evidently the RIMM manufacturers can't either. Two things took home from ITC regarding ATE:
1- some RDRAM testors are marginal in terms of maximum data rate 1Gb/sec and edge placement timing 50-150 ps. Off spec sheets guys
2- Gelsinger had no problem going in front of entire IEEE test conference and basically said ATE vendors are out of line in terms of costs of testing hispeed RAM and additionally there are very poor capabilities to detect signal problems when RIMM's are in line in motherboards. He went on to say if you don't straighten out your act computer vendors will find less expensive and more reliable ways of testing hispeed RIMM's in Intel based computers. It was not a vailed threat he was very serious. Gelsinger started out at Intel twenty years ago as a QC engineer; so he knows what he is talking about.
