Deal on China WTO entry close

SHANGHAI, China (CBS.MW) -- China's chief trade negotiator said
that his country and the U.S. are "very close" to a deal that would allow
China to enter the World Trade Organization but that differences could
still scuttle a deal. Long Yongtu, vice minister for foreign trade and
Beijing's point man on WTO talks, on Tuesday played down fears that his
absence as talks resumed briefly Monday in Washington meant China isn't
eager for a deal. The talks now are "basically a political decision," he said,
in explaining why Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation
Shi Guangsheng led the Chinese delegation to Washington. "Both sides
already know the negotiating positions of the other side, and now we have
to make some difficult ... decisions," Long said in an interview with Cable
News Network in Shanghai. "I think we are very close." The Wall Street
