NEC, Intel announce tie-up in Internet business

TOKYO, Sept 29 (Reuters) - NEC Corp and Intel Corp (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) said on Wednesday they had agreed to collaborate to enhance their Internet-related businesses.

The two companies said they would connect NEC's Biglobe Internet service with Intel's Online Services to offer global Internet services to Biglobe customers.

Computer chip giant Intel Corp has said it is investing over $1 billion to set up data centres around the world to establish its new Internet services hosting business, called Intel Online Services.

As part of the collaboration, Intel will establish its first Intel Online Services in Japan in cooperation with NEC.

The two companies plan to provide a large-scale platform for deploying electronic commerce business services starting the first half of 2,000.
