CharleyMane, I haven't read Allensworth's book. But at this point, I would say there is hardly a politician running for Parliament this year,or planning to run for President next year, who is NOT a nationalist,specifically an ethnic Russian nationalist, in some sense. Lebed is by no means the worst of the lot, IMO. The point is that the mood of the Russian electorate has finally turned ugly, xenophobic, and downright racist. That is true even -- and especially -- of Moscow, which in times past was always more "liberal" than the rest of the country. The apartment house bombings helped to intensify this mood, but didn't create it. And the politicians are all catering to it. Ugh.
