Tommy, please tell Jay he's not alone not understanding Gilder. I try to read his articles in Forbes ASAP magazine and have trouble. And I'm an EE. He has a language all his own.

Tom

I will ask my ex-worker cohort if he went to that conference. If he went, I will get the skinny and turn his comments into investor english. We use to go to a lot of the future tech conference. We needed it for work reasons but it never hurt our portfolio.

He's just trying to hang on by his finger nails...LOL..Honesty is such a wonderful quality in a person. Give Jay the OK to proceed with plan B: the 3 martini lunch!

I've been attending the Gilder conference via live audio and video from my home at the beach:

webevents.broadcast.com

Along with nightly audio summaries from here:

confirmatoryanalysis.com

Yes, some of it is a bit technical but taken as a whole, the speakers and panelists are painting a picture of the future that is easily understood in very general terms. Imagine it's 1986 and Bill Gates is describing the intricacies of his operating system. Over your head then too, but somewhere along the line you pick up a few shares of his company as you absorb just enough understanding to want to participate in whatever it is that he is talking about.

I saw you on CNBC in April or May. Some lady called in about SCH (schwab stock), and you said it was a great stock and a great buy. And schwab has fallen ever since. Check out this chart:

finance.yahoo.com

Now we all make mistakes, just goes to show that none of us really know whats going to happen in the market no matter how hard we try. It's always a crapshoot that eventually boils more down to cash management schemes and time horizons rather than timing prowess. Remember that lady calling about Schwab? I sure do, because I was short the stock at the time.
