Mike, the knee-jerk reaction when the Fed leaves rates alone is likely to be higher, but many traders will be well aware that it's really not new information and will sell into strength. The data are almost certain to show continued economic strength and there will be growing fears about a hike in Nov. And my 9-yr old daughter knows that Q3 earnings are going to be "great". Most PMs and hedge fund mgrs are up to their gills in tech and will look to realign portfolios, with an eye on protecting their year's returns. The race will be on to see who can get out of many of the so-called "very liquid" stocks, and I don't see who's going to take the other side of those trades. As an added "bonus" there's Y2K to consider when deciding how one's portfolio should be structured during Q4.
