Biolase wins FDA OK for dental, periodontal lasers

NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Biolase Technology Inc. (NasdaqSC:BLTI - news), a
maker of lasers for medical and dental use, said it won marketing clearances from U.S.
regulators for two laser devices for use in dental cosmetic and soft tissue procedures.

TwiLite and HyLite, the San Clemente, Calif.-company's two new light-weight diode lasers,
were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a variety of dental and periodontal procedures.

TwiLite can be used by dentists to perform soft tissue procedures. It is cleared for use in general dental procedures as well as a
number of more complex dental operations.

The HyLite laser is designed for use in periodontal diseases, which are ''the leading cause of tooth loss in adults,'' according to
the American Dental Association.

The two lasers were also approved for indications including ear, nose and throat, arthroscopy, gastroenterology, general
surgery, dermatology, plastic surgery, podiatry, GI/GU, gynecology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, pulmonary surgery and
urology.

Biolase's clearances specifically include sucular debridement, which is the removal of diseased or inflamed soft tissue in the
periodontal pockets.
