Although the selling of mailing lists is common practice, more and more companies are offering a way to specify that one does not want one's name on a mailing list that is being sold.

Remember E's mentioning that if you have ever given your telephone number to someone, even if your number is unlisted, there is a site that will not only show your address but also provide a map and driving directions to your home?

There is another site that will not only locate you; for $59 one can order a background search that includes a listing of your assets.

Data warehousing and data mining can take the trouble out of keeping intimate tabs on any and all of us. The technology is already there and in place at companies such as Sears.
